DIY Victoria's Secret Angel Wings

Melody Alanna

The good are never easy, the easy never good. I loved being a Victoria's Secret Angel last Halloween! I handmade these gorgeous wings using electrical wire, plastic, lots of hot glue and feathers.

Below is a step by step tutorial with pictures to help you make the perfect pair of angel wings to go with any angel themed costume your heart desires. Pair these flawless wings with a satin kimono to get my Victoria’s Secret Backstage Angel look for this Halloween.

Materials
- Ostrich feathers
- Electrical wire (electrical oven wire)
- Glitter paint
- Craft feathers
- Elastic
- 2 pieces of clear plastic
- Feather Boa
- Satin Robe

Directions:

Measure the width of your shoulder. Mine came to about 16 inches but you can give or take an inch depending on how long you want your wings to extend.

Go to your local hardware store and purchase your desired length of electrical oven wire. Some stores have wire you can have custom cut, others sell it prepackaged by the yard. Either way it needs to be able to bend just enough to form the shape for the frame of your wings.

Bend the wire in the center and flare out the edges as shown below

Next you will need to attach a base for your wings to the electrical wire. For this step, is used two pieces of plastic cutting board. If you’re going to use anything else make sure it’s flexible, yet sturdy enough to ensure the wings have a solid base. Trace and cut the plastic in an oval shape to your desired size and use lots of hot glue to secure it.

Grab you’re glitter paint and cover the electrical wire that will remain visible. I had to do a few coats to get a solid glitter effect.

Once that’s dry, you’re going to measure and cut your elastic band. I found pretty elastic lace here to add an extra touch to my costume, but any elastic band will work. Secure the elastic band to the frame of your wings using lots of hot glue.

Grab your craft feathers. You can order these online or at your local dollar store/craft store. You’ll need about 2 100 count bags of craft feathers. We’re going to use these feathers as a base for our ostrich feathers to make the wings appear fuller. Use lots of hot glue to fully cover the front and back of your wings.

Now we are going to need our ostrich feathers. You can order these in bulk from Amazon.com. Start on the outer part of the wing and work Inward. You won’t need to fully cover the back of your wings because your back will be covering this part, but you can add as many feathers as you desire.

Next you’re going to take a feather boa and cut just enough to cover up any of the exposed glue marks or feather edges. Your going to want to glue this to the fame and the inner corner of the wings.
